PRODUCTION MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Production Manager
Department: Operations
Reports To: Director of Operations
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

SUMMARY
Primary focus on manufacturing operations, safety, quality, logistics, plant financials, personnel training and development, lean manufacturing systems and techniques. Develops, manages, and coordinates the activities of DSC Stamping and assembly personnel, equipment and processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop, maintain, and continually improve stamping and assembly operations. Utilizing methods such as QDC, “Hit to Hit,” SPC, Lean manufacturing systems i.e. 5S value stream mapping, Kaizen events, Kanban pull systems, total visual floor management and other productivity and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Directly supervise, schedule, and coordinate the activities of DSC personnel. Interim direct reports include materials, production, maintenance, tooling, manufacturing engineer and production personnel.
  • Oversee steel shipping, receiving, and warehousing activities. Close coordination with DSC Purchasing. 
  • Assure compliance to safety regulations. Manage and support all safety requirements for personnel and equipment. Maintain a clean, organized work environment through the implementation of 5S throughout the plant.
  • Communicate daily or as needed with DSC Quality, Production Control and other personnel to determine production requirements and resolve any internal and or customer issues.
  • Audit operations’ production and finished goods for both quality and productivity requirements. Includes maintaining production and quality records. Prepares and submits daily checklists to verify critical activities. Participate in stamping related APQP launch and quotation activities as needed. 
  • Maintain appropriate personnel levels to support current requirements and growth. Direct all interview, hiring, and discharge activities at DSC. Coordinate and implement policies in close contact with DSC Human Resources Department. 
  • Develop and maintain training programs for personnel. Included are Press, Crane, and Powered Industrial Truck Operators, Die Setters, Maintenance and support personnel.
  • Develop and maintain both DSC and customer-owned tooling. Includes die tracking, scheduled maintenance cycles, repair and replacement activities, etc. Establish and maintain supplier relationships critical to support and improvement of DSC tooling management performance.
  • Responsible for developing, gathering data, and reporting company level data and measurables for Management Review and DSC business-budget planning.
  • Overall responsibility for facility profit and loss, equipment maintenance repair including grounds and support systems.
  • Establish and maintain supplier/service relationships critical to support and improvement of DSC operations.
  • Overall responsibility for overall product quality. Assist in development of Quality System documentation affecting DSC operations.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of all job-related Quality Objectives, Quality System Policies, Procedures, and Instructions.

  • Responsible for the safety of self and product from damage and/or injury.
  • Responsible for “first time quality” at the source.
  • Maintain good communications within the department to ensure that safety, quality and efficiency standards are understood and consistent. 
  • Develop and maintain training programs for personnel. Assure compliance to safety programs and support all safety requirements for personnel and equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor degree in related field, minimum of three years experience in management or supervision in a stamping, blanking or tool & die environment.
  • Must be familiar with stamping, blanking and assembly processes and related equipment, TS 16949 quality system requirements and responsibilities.
  • Basic statistical methods include control charts (variable and attribute), Pareto analysis, 5 whys and other problem solving or process control methods.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Has the ability to write routine reports, correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
